Overhead Travelling Crane Manufacture
We design, manufacture and install bespoke overhead travelling cranes for a variety of industries and applications.
Why Choose an Overhead Travelling Crane for Your Business?
An overhead travelling crane, also known as a bridge crane, is an essential lifting solution in industrial settings. It comprises a horizontal beam (girder) that travels along elevated rails, enabling the attached hoist and trolley to move loads vertically and horizontally across a designated area. This configuration allows for efficient and precise handling of heavy materials, enhancing workflow and safety.
Opting for an overhead travelling crane offers several advantages:
- Maximised Workspace: By operating above ground level, these cranes free up valuable floor space, facilitating better utilisation of the work area.
- Enhanced Safety: Elevated operation reduces the risk of accidents associated with ground-level material handling, contributing to a safer working environment.
- Versatility: Suitable for various industries, overhead travelling cranes can be customised to meet specific operational requirements, accommodating diverse lifting capacities and spans.
- Improved Efficiency: Capable of moving heavy loads swiftly and accurately, these cranes streamline processes, leading to increased productivity.

Types of overhead travelling crane we Design & Install
Decide on the correct composition for your overhead travelling crane by choosing from the below factors.
Single & Double Girder Overhead Cranes

(For Heavy Loads)
Single Girder Overhead Cranes
Single girder overhead travelling cranes generally have a maximum safe working load of up to 25 tonnes. Because of their single girder composition, they generally have a simpler hoist and trolley design which can be easier to install and maintain. A single girder over head crane allows for lighter runway beams either side of the travelling beam due to the lower load that needs to be supported.

(For Very Heavy Loads)
Double Girder Overhead Cranes
Double girder overhead travelling cranes can support safe working loads of up to 200 tonnes and hence have a higher duty rating than their single girder counterparts. Double girder overhead cranes also allow you to have a higher hook because the hoist is on top of the beam rather than underneath. Furthermore a double girder crane has a wider span with more width of movement due to it’s composition.
(When required)
Under-Slung Overhead Travelling Cranes
An under slung overhead travelling crane can be used when the roof is the best location to affix the support rails for the travelling crane. This system takes up limited factory floor space, however solution usually has a smaller lifting capacity than an standard overhead travelling crane and is more expensive to install.

Travelling Overhead Crane Support Types
We design, manufacture and install bespoke travelling overhead cranes for a variety of industries and applications.

(For Maximum Floor Space)
Integral Building Rails
Our overhead travelling cranes can be built into the structure of your building. Appropriate for smaller square footage areas where opposing walls aren’t too far apart. This solution means that there is no need for a full width supporting gantry to accommodate the travelling beam rails. The benefit of this solution is that it requires less steel work and uses minimal floor space. This solution of course requires a building that is capable of supporting the crane and load weights. Or if you are planning on designing a new warehouse or workspace from the ground up, we can design an build integral building rails to support your travelling overhead crane to include in your architectural designs.

(For Maximum Flexibility)
Freestanding Supporting Gantry
When the supporting structure of the building is not suitable to support the overhead travelling beam, then additional supporting gantry’s can be constructed on one, or both sides of the crane to support it instead. This solution is more suited for isolated locations within the middle of a warehouse far away from adjacent walls, or for outside use. A gantry will have some impact floor space to accommodate the overhead structure. A Bramley Engineering we will always offer a gantry design that is best suited your requirements ensuring that you floor space is kept as a priority during the design process. The height of gantry can be custom designed to suit location requirements.

Overhead Travelling Cranes FAQ
What is a overhead travelling crane?
A traveling overhead crane consists of a single-girder or double-girder traveling beam that can be moved back and forth along two elevated rails. A combined hoist and trolley is mounted to the travelling beam which moves left and right across it. The hoist is used to raise, move and lower loads safely and efficiently around it’s target lift area. Overhead cranes are commonly used in warehouses where they offer an efficient and safe indoor lifting solution for moving heavy loads up to 200 tonnes.
When should you choose a overhead travelling crane?
An overhead travelling crane is the optimum solution when a large lift area needs to be covered where the load can be manoeuvred in all directions by motorised trolleys. A travelling overhead crane has a much larger lift area and capacity than any other crane. A travelling overhead crane also keeps supporting structures to a minimum freeing up space in your working area.
Travelling Overhead Crane Alternatives

Goliath Cranes
If you have no suitable structure to mount your crane runway beams to, then a floor mounted Golith Crane could be an excellent option.

Semi-Goliath Cranes
Should you only have one wall to affix a runway beam, then a Semi-Goliath Crane could suit your needs nicely.

Fixed Gantry Cranes
If you do not need your overhead beam to move, and your load only has to move along one axis, then a Fixed Gantry Crane could be the ideal solution.
