Underbraced Wall Mount Jib Crane

What is a Jib Crane?

A jib crane is a fixed crane that is either floor-mounted (using a vertical post), wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted. A fixed beam or articulated arm is extended from the mount and can be rotated around the mount to provide a range of movement for the load. A hoist can travel along the fixed beam adjusting the reach to suit requirements. Jib cranes are an excellent solution for lifting heavy equipment on and off work benches, trolleys, conveyer belts, railway tracks, docks or vehicles regularly from a fixed location. A jib crane is suitable for many applications where a large coverage is required and a minimal footprint is necessary for the cranes supporting structure.

We Design And Manufacture Various Types Of Jib Crane

We offer a wide variety of jib crane options with various floor, wall, and ceiling mounting types. Under-braced and over-braced jibs depending on the headroom available. And articulated jibs where a more intricate movement is required, or when there are obstacles in the path of the target lift area.

Jib Crane Mounting Types

Underbraced Wall Mount Jib Crane

Wall Mounted Jib Cranes

Wall mounted jib cranes are an great solution for fixed work areas by a wall or where floor-space is limited. The maxium capacity of a jib crane is dependant on the stregth of the mounting wall and the crane design. The down side ot a wall mounted jib crane is that they have a maximum 180 degree rotation. Wall mounted jib cranes will also require a structural engineer to review the drawings to confirm the projected imposed loadings on the wall or column will be as safe as possible

Overbraced Floor Mount Jib Crane

Floor Mounted Jib Cranes

Floor Mounted (or Freestanding) Jib Cranes have their arm mounted to a fixed column that can allow for a 270 degree or complete 360 degree load rotation depending on the design. The fixed column of a floor mounted jib crane will be fixed to the floor allowing for the heaviest loads of all the jib crane options. The maximum capacity of a freestanding jib will be determined by the design of the crane and the depth and strength of the floor foundations.

Articulated Ceiling Mount Jib Crane

Ceiling Mounted Jib Cranes

Roof mounted jib cranes allow for maximum flexibility. The load can be most easily moved around obstacles, especially as an articulated jib. A roof mounted jib also has the benefit of taking up no floor space, similar to a wall mounted jib crane, however with the added flexibility of having a 360 degree rotation. The maximum capacity will depend on the the stability of the roof the crane is mounted on and the crane design itself. Our articulated roof-mounted jibs cranes can have a maximum reach of 2-5 meters

Articulated & Fixed Beam Jib Cranes

When deciding on an articulated or a fixed beam jib crane, a fixed beam will generally be the preferred solution unless extra manoeuvrability is required or when there are obstacles in close proximity to the target lift area.

Articulated Ceiling Mount Jib Crane

Articulated Jib Cranes

Articulated jib cranes have an additional pivot point along the jib, which means they are move flexible in the way that they can maneuver a load. Excellent for intricate processes or for when the load needs to be maneuvered around obstacles or where a fixed beam would be obstructed. As an articulated jib has an extra pivot point along the beam they generarally will have a lower weight capacity than a fixed beam jib.

Overbraced Wall Mount Jib Crane

Wall Mounted Jib Cranes

Fixed beam jib cranes are the most common type of jib crane and are suitable for most fixed location lifting requirements. Due to the way that a fixed beam jib crane is constructed (with only one pivot from the supporting structure) they can generally carry more weight then their articulated counterparts, and can extend further. However they are less flexible than articulated jib in the way that a load can be maneuvered.

Fixed Beam Jib Support Types

The decision to choose an over-braced or under-braced jib crane depends on two things: the headroom required above the crane, and how much travel your hoist needs along the cantilever arm.

Overbraced Wall Mount Jib Crane

Over-Braced Jib Cranes

The ideal solution (should the headroom allow) would be for an overbraced jib crane. This would allow the hoist the travel the maximum distance along the jib arm, allowing the load to have maximum travel back to the structure of the jib crane itself. The downside of this solution is that it requires more headroom above the jib arm to allow for the over-braced support.

Underbraced Wall Mount Jib Crane

Under-Braced Jib Cranes

For an under-braced jib, the cantilever arm will be supported from below. If there is a low ceiling or limited headroom above the jib location, then an under-braced jib may be the preferred solution as this reduces the height required to operate. Due to the design of an under braced jib, the jib arm section would need to be larger and stronger compared to over braced design where support is along its entire jib length.
