Davit Crane Manufacture

We provide a turnkey solution to design, manufacture and install bespoke Davit Cranes for your unique lifting scenarios.

What is a Davit Crane?

Davit Cranes are generally used as a portable rotating crane, commonly transported by service engineers to be used at a variety of lifting locations. Davit cranes easily be transported and can be installed quickly when a davit socket has already been installed at the lift location. Davits cranes generally have a 360 degree slew (providing they are unobstruted) as the supporting column can spin 360 degrees in it’s socket. Davit cranes are generally used for manual hoisting using a manual winch, or a manual hoist (chain block) when ease of transport is a key consideration.

What is the maximum lifting capacity of a Davit Crane?

Davit cranes generally have a maximum safe working load of 500 KG. Some davit cranes can go up to a 1 tonne of capacity but this is generally at the expense of reliability.

What is the maximum reach of a Davit Crane?

Davit cranes commonly lift loads up to 1.2 meters away from the supporting column. Some Davit cranes can reach further than this, however this is usually at the expense of lifting capacity.
If you are looking for a more permanent crane solution that can safely lift more than 500 KG, or have a further reach than 1.2 meters, then perhaps a Jib Crane is a more suitable solution for your needs.

The benefits of a Davit Crane

Davit cranes can be an excellent solution when cost, portability and space are key considerations.

Cost effective for multiple lifting locations

Davit cranes are a cost effective solution when there are a large number of lift locations – because they are portable – one crane can be used across multiple sites where a socket has been installed at each site. This means only one Davit Crane will be required per engineer. not per lifting location.

Can be space saving and reduce trip hazards

A Davit socket is unobtrusive and can be flush to the ground which means there is low likelihood that the socket will cause a trip hazard. In tight workshop locations, a davit socket can be installed, and the davit crane can remain out of sight stored away in a cupboard and only retrieved when needed.

Types of Davit Crane We Offer

We can design, manufacture and install a custom build Davit Cranes specifically suited to your requirements. Choose from the below options or speak to one of our engineers today to let us guide you to your ideal lifting solution.

Davit Crane Mounting Types

Pedestal Base

Davit cranes generally have a maximum safe working load of 500 KG. Some davit cranes can go up to a 1 tonne of capacity but this is generally at the expense of reliability.

Socket Base

Davit cranes commonly lift loads up to 1.2 meters away from the supporting column. Some Davit cranes can reach further than this, however this is usually at the expense of lifting capacity.

Wall Mount Base

Davit cranes commonly lift loads up to 1.2 meters away from the supporting column. Some Davit cranes can reach further than this, however this is usually at the expense of lifting capacity.

Semi-Permanent & Portable Davits

We offer both semi-permanent & portable Davit Cranes. In some instances a semi-permanent davit would be in place if the location is hard to reach.

Semi-Permanent Davits

Most commonly used in a permanent location when the load is under 500 KG and within 1.2 meters of the load. Commonly used as a cheaper alternative to a jib crane for the same task with lighter loads.

Portable Davits

Portable davits are used when multiple locations need lifting coverage, and a davit socket can be installed at each location. For loads under 500 KG and within 1.2 meters, typically found in service engineers vehicles.

Davit Crane Hoists & Winches

Davit cranes will usually utilize manual winches and hoists. Because the unique selling point of a davit crane is usually that is is portable, it’s usage locations will more often than not, be without an electrical supply. Therefore require manual lifting.

Manual Winches

More commonly used on permanent davits because a winch will be permanently affixed to the davit. Best used when the target lift is in an inaccessible area.

Manual Hoists

Manual hoists are generally part of a portable davit kit. A manual hoist (or chain block) makes it easier for assembling and unassembling, rather than a fitted winch which would add additional weight to the davit itself.

Alternatives to a Davit Crane

If a davit crane does not meet your reach or capacity requirements, the perhaps an alternative option might better suit your needs:
If you need more weight capacity or extra reach to access your load, then a jib crane could be a superior solution.

Should you have an overhead space to mount your hoist then a Monorail Crane could suit your needs nicely.

If you require a more permanet structure over your desired lift, then a Fixed Gantry Crane could be the ideal solution.
